The work behind the box
InkEx began as a small Durban operation focused on the daily problem of printer spend. New cartridges often leave too much waste behind, and many teams do not need a brand new unit every time the ink runs low. We built our service around refurbished cartridges, refill systems and careful handling of consumables that are still useful.
That approach suits offices that print reports, studios that handle colour proofs, and wide-format teams that depend on steady output. The aim is not to make printing fancy, it is to keep it practical, affordable and less wasteful in ordinary use.
What refurbished cartridges mean in practice
Refurbished cartridges are emptied units that are cleaned, inspected, refilled and tested before they go out again. In simple terms, the shell is kept in service while the ink is renewed. That can lower day-to-day print costs and reduce the number of cartridges going to landfill or storage drawers.
We look at physical condition, seal health, ink flow and chip behaviour where that applies. Some cartridges suit a basic office printer, while others must handle finer text, richer graphics or larger format output. The point is to match the cartridge to the job, not push every printer into the same box.

- General chip reset help where supported
- Advice on keeping empties for return or reuse
Bulk ink systems for heavier print habits
Bulk ink refill systems, also called continuous ink supply systems, are useful when a machine prints often and the cost of small cartridges becomes awkward. They feed ink from external reservoirs through tubing to the printer, which can suit busy offices and studios with regular colour output.
We help with setup guidance, leak checking and ink type choices, including the difference between dye and pigment inks. Dye ink is often used for bright colour work and everyday documents, while pigment ink is usually preferred for sharper text and better resistance on certain media. The correct choice depends on the printer model, the paper and the kind of work on the table.
Printhead care matters just as much as ink choice. A blocked nozzle can waste time, so nozzle checks, cleaning cycles and sensible storage habits are part of the picture. If the system is not used often, the ink path still needs attention.
How our team handles the detail work
InkEx is built around people who deal with the fiddly parts of printing every week. Sibusiso Kotze oversees the business, Ayesha Majola keeps operations moving, Mandla Zondi handles refill work and technical checks, Lauren Naidoo supports customer queries, Johan Mabena manages dispatch and courier flow, and Nokuthula Mabuza keeps orders and accounts in order.
That structure helps when a customer needs more than a straight sale. Some jobs need colour balance help. Others need guidance on a stubborn chip, a leak around a cartridge seal, or whether a refill kit suits the machine at all. We keep the conversation technical enough to be useful, but plain enough for a busy office manager or print operator to use.
- Cartridge refill advice for compatible models
- CISS setup help for steady, higher-volume printing
- Chip reset help in general terms where the cartridge allows it
- Remote troubleshooting for recurring print faults
Reusing empties without making a mess of the job
Empty cartridges are not all equal. Some can be cleaned and refilled several times, while others reach the end of the road sooner because of wear, cracked housing or poor seal quality. We encourage sensible sorting, careful storage and return where possible, so usable parts are not thrown away too early.
Our empty return programme supports that habit. It is useful for teams that go through a lot of consumables and want a cleaner storage area too. Used cartridges can be kept in a bag or box, away from dust and heat, which helps the handling side later on. In Durban’s humidity, that small bit of care matters more than people think.
We also talk through colour balance help where print output starts drifting, because a refill that is technically full is not always printing neatly. Sometimes the issue is the ink, sometimes it is the head, and sometimes it is the paper path. The fix is usually in the details.
Where we work from and where we send orders
Our base is in Westville, Durban, and we support clients across the country through courier delivery and practical refill guidance. We regularly serve Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Ballito and Hillcrest, with the same care given to a single office or a larger print room.
For wide-format print shops, stable colour and consistent flow are often more important than anything else. For offices, low interruption and sensible stock planning usually matter most. Artists often need ink advice that respects paper choice, drying behaviour and how the final print will be handled. Different users, different habits, same need for clean supply and honest guidance.
- Courier dispatch for local and national orders
- Stock planning help for regular users
- Operator training for teams handling refill systems
- Support across office, studio and print room settings
A working style that stays close to the task
We keep our work steady, practical and specific to the printer in front of us. That means asking about the machine, the ink already in use, the paper, the volume of printing and the kind of result the customer needs. It is a more useful way to work than guessing from a catalogue line.
Our contact form is the main route for new enquiries, order notes and support requests. It gives us the details needed to look at cartridge compatibility, refill options and the sort of help the job calls for. We stay focused on real printing conditions, not theory for its own sake.
InkEx is here for the parts of printing that people still need to get right. When a cartridge is worth saving, we refurbish it. When a refill system makes more sense, we guide the setup. When a printer starts behaving oddly, we work through the basics and keep the process straightforward.
